Young at Heart Club
The Young at Heart Club is a program that is meant to encourage prospective dog owners that senior dogs are worthy of a loving home and to discover the joys and benefits of owning a mature dog. The adoption fee of our senior dogs, age 7 years and older, is reduced to $100.00
The goal of the Young at Heart Club is to ensure that the golden years of every one of our senior dogs are happy and safe and that they know that they are loved. Many people are reluctant to adopt a senior dog because they fear that their time with your new best friend will not be as long as they would like. But the privilege of loving a senior dog makes every single day special, as you and your companion share love, friendship and a special relationship that grows stronger with the knowledge that you have given this wonderful dog a happy life.
To qualify for the program, potential adopters must participate in the shelter's usual adoption screening process.
For adoption information, contact Anderson Animal Shelter at (847) 697-2880, or e-mail us at neuteryourpets@andersonanimalshelter.com. Please include the dog's name and a note that he or she is a member of the Young At Heart Club in your e-mail message.

Female - Cocker Spaniel Beautiful Baby was given up by an owner who was no longer able to care for her due to financial difficulties. At ten years of age this senior gal has the energy of a much younger dog. Happy and social with both people and other dogs, Baby is anxiously awaiting her forever family to come and take her home. A bit sensitive to some handling we are asking for a home with children over the age of ten years. She seems to really enjoy the company of other dogs and would welcome a doggy sibling to play and hang out with. If you think Baby is a good match for you, then please stop by the shelter to meet her. |
Male - Newfoundland Dog Mix Tommy is a gentle giant that will make you smile even if youre having a bad day. This handsome seven year old Newfie mix is dignified, social and smart; he already knows sit, down, stay, and shake. Due to his calm demeanor and sweet soul, Tommy will thrive most in a relaxed environment and will therefore need a forever family with older (10 +) children. His favorite pastimes include walks, car rides and swimming. Although very friendly with people, Tommy does not do well with other dogs and will need to be the only pet in the home. If you dont mind some shedding and slobbering?, come meet this big guy today and see if hes the lovable lug youve been looking for. |

Female - Pomeranian Precious Petunia wants nothing more then a quiet and loving home to spend her senior years in. At ten plus years young, she does have quite a skip to her step and deserves nothing short of a loving home. This laid back lady would love a home where she will be doted on and have a comfortable lap to lie on. Petunia has cataracts and limited vision, so she would like an adult only home or one with children over the age of eight years. A very calm doggy friend that would be respectful of her would be a good match. If you have room in your heart and home for sweet loving elderly addition, then stop by the shelter to meet Petunia and be prepared to love. |
